Athletes and television celebrities are just as prone to drinking and driving as the rest of us. One might logically assume that because they have plenty of money they would just take a cab or limo to get home if they were drunk. Recently I have blogged about two such celebrities who made the poor choice of drinking and driving.

The first was celebrity chef Cat Cora. The 45-year-old Cora was nailed for DUI in Santa Barbara. She is best known for her role as an Iron Chef on the Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” and as the co-host of Bravo's “Around the World in 80 Plates.” As reported in www.nypost.com.

Fortunately for Cora, she will not face jail time after she was arrested for DUI after rear-ending another vehicle in her 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Cora told police she had consumed three bottles of beer. Her blood-alcohol level was determined to be .20 and .19 from two breath samples taken at the scene.

Michael Pineda

Michael Pineda has not made himself very popular among those in the new York Yankees organization. He was acquired last Spring in a blockbuster that sent the Yankees’ top prospect, catcher Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners.

Now while rehabbing from his season-long injury he is busted for driving under the influence after police spotted his speeding, "weaving" Nissan SUV driving without its headlights on.

The burly Pineda, 23, had a fixed gaze and his eyes were bloodshot, watery and glassy when pulled over in the middle of the night. They also smelled the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, and his speech was slurred. He was an All-Star in his rookie season last year with the Seattle Mariners.

The Dominican Republic native's blood-alcohol level was found to be .128 and .125 in two separate readings.

Hopefully he will take a good New York DUI class and continue to rehab him. The Yankees could sure use him in their rotation.
