OJ Simpson may have been able to escape the long arm of the law. One famous man who could not escape the law was Polo mogul John Goodman. Why would a guy worth hundreds of millions of dollars drive drunk?

In one of the most highly-publicized Florida driving under the influence (DUI) cases in recent times, Goodman was convicted of DUI-manslaughter and vehicular homicide Friday and immediately taken to the Palm Beach County Jail (Florida). This was reported in NWSource.com.

Goodman is known for a number of things besides killing someone while driving under the influence. You may remember his for adopting his girlfriend. Goodman had quietly adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend, making her eligible for a share of the $300 million trust he'd established for his two biological children.

The 48-year-old now faces up to 30 years in prison.

In the accident that killed a 23-year-old man, a drunken Goodman ran a stop sign and rammed his black Bentley into the victim’s Hyundai, causing it to roll into a canal, where the young man drowned. Making matters worse Goodman left the scene and waited nearly an hour to call 911. Doctors believe the victim would have survived the crash if someone had rescued him from the canal.

Three hours after the crash, Goodman's blood-alcohol level was measured at .177 percent, more than twice the legal driving limit.

Lies, Lies and More Lies

Fortunately the jury was able to see what really happened in this case. Goodman’s defense claimed that after leaving the scene of the crash, went to a nearby barn that was owned by a friend where there happened to be booze which he consumed to ease the pain of his broken wrist. What a bunch of bull!

Jail will be far different from his privileged life where in a $6 million mansion on 80 acres with elaborate horse stables. It is too late to save the victim’s life. Goodman may never have the chance to atone for his sins as he most-likely will live out his life behind bars.
