Indiana Man Get's Incredible Number of DUIs

An Indiana man has more driving under the influence violations that anyone I have ever heard of. Care to guess how many he has received? I wrote about an Ohio woman last year who had just received her seventh. This guy, according to Pantagraph.com blows her away!

William Dietrich admitted to an officer during his 11th DUI arrest that he thought it was unsafe for him to be driving has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The 47-year-old was stopped as part of a roadside safety check. He immediately admitted to being in a drunken state. He was arrested as soon as officers noticed the open containers and strong smell of alcohol in the car.

Prior to this offense, Dietrich received DUIs in 1982, 1985, twice in 1986, 1989, 1991, 2000, 2002 and 2005. He also was cited for the offense in 2007, a conviction that resulted in an 8-year prison sentence. Dietrich was released on parole in September 2010 on that charge, but returned to prison for violating the terms of his release after the 2011 charges.

Under state law, the first and second DUI offenses a driver receives are misdemeanor offenses unless a child is in the vehicle and injured in a crash. Drunk driving moves up to a felony with the third offense and a Class X felony with the sixth, meaning the driver faces six to 30 years in prison.

Since 1987, Dietrich has been sentenced to prison six times on driving and criminal offenses. Sobriety check points are good things. It is nice to see their success. We can only hope Dietrich is a permanent pedestrian! This guy is a menace behind the wheel and I certainly hope he does not get a chance for #12.
