Despite Claims, Miss America Rima Fakih Needs DUI Class

I am not the only counselor for DUI classes who thinks Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih needs an alcohol class. It turns out the judge in her driving under the influence (DUI) case agrees.

Former Miss USA Rima Fakih was sentenced for the DUI she received last year.  She received six months’ probation and 20 hours of community service. In addition she must pay $600 in fines and court costs. Fakih must also undergo a mandatory alcohol class. This according to examiner.com.

Fakih reached a settlement with prosecutors in the case just hours before it was set to go to trial. In the settlement, she pleaded no contest to misdemeanor driving while visibly impaired. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop the much more serious charge of operating while intoxicated.

She was originally arrested in the Highland Park suburb of Detroit, Michigan, on suspicion of drunk driving. Police noticed she was speeding and weaving through traffic.

Once pulled over, Fakih denied drinking any alcohol that night and confidently blew into the breathalyzer.

Uh oh – she blew a .20. It didn’t help that officers also claimed a half empty wine bottle was found on the vehicle’s floor board, behind the driver’s seat. She was immediately cuffed and booked for DUI.

Hopefully this young beauty has learned from her mistake. Hopefully the alcohol class she takes will help keep her clean and sober for the rest of her life!
